Standard and most common Key Types

Cylinder keys are used for the home or business and unlock cylinder style locks. They offer great security and are double-sided cut. Overall, they are hard to pick, bump, making them hard to open. These locks are used for storage units, sheds, home or hotel safe and some doors.

Deadbolt keys are the most common type of locks and keys in use today. These locks are tough to pick or tamper with. Therefore, they are most commonly used on house doors and commercial doors. It’s durability and simplicity make it an edge for the best security. Moreover, the keys are easy to copy if you need extras.

Double-sided cut keys are keys that have teeth on both sides. Therefore, offering the extra security that you may prefer, for your home or business. Again, providing even greater security due to the complexity of the key and how it fits the lock.

Double cylinder locks and keys are becoming more popular these days. Essentially, a key can be inserted on either side of the lock. For example, you can lock up when you are inside or lock up on the outside.

Modern Key Types

Valet Key are used by an establishment that offer the service of car parking and retrieval. These keys are used by valets or mechanics and can start and open the car but can’t open the trunk or glove box.

FOB Keys or access cards are used for vehicles, apartment buildings and workplaces. The ease of access with FOB or access cards has been a great modern convenience.

VAT Keys or vehicle anti theft keys are used in older vehicles and have a small resistor pellet that allows the ignition to check if the key is genuine.

Usual or antique keys

Antique keys are the most ornate keys to be created. Although, for the times they were great but they are not very secure and their lock can be easily picked.

Cruciform keys aka cross keys have a cross design and four set of teeth. Commonly used commercial and when extra high security is needed. Such as electronic access and commercial locks.
